Kansas Photographer

   Hi, I'm Matt, and I'm obsessed with photography.   I've enjoyed the visual arts, such as drawing, printmaking, and sculpting, since childhood. I became fascinated with photography in college, and have been studying it ever since.   Many different subjects interest me.   I started out with traditional, BW landscape, but once my kids came along portraiture and people photography became my passion. I also enjoy photographing local bands, live music and events, and the city of Lawrence.

     I never intended to become a professional photographer, but I shot my first wedding for friends over a decade ago, and I really enjoyed it. Through word of mouth I began doing more weddings and portraits, until in 2003 I officially started Matt Needham Photography.

     When I'm not busy with weddings and portraits you'll find me wandering around Lawrence with my wife and kids, shooting my favorite local live music, or exploring the back roads, woods, prairies, and ancient ocean floors of Kansas. There are some beautiful and fantastic places out there in an often overlooked landscape. I also enjoy cooking (eating), reading, camping, good coffee, good beer, visiting art galleries, and hunting for morel mushrooms.
